Spring Break is here! We wish you all an enjoyable and restful break, and safe travels wherever you may go. Boarding students are due back on campus Sunday, March 12 by 7:30 p.m. Please remember that daylight saving time begins that day, which means the School’s time will spring ahead one hour. Classes resume for all students on Monday, March 13.
Thank you to everyone who submitted recipes for the Taste of La Lumiere. We received 100 delicious recipes to serve at our international food festival that celebrates the many cultures represented within the La Lumiere community. This amazing event is quickly approaching on Friday, April 7, so mark your calendars, tell your friends, and purchase your tickets online. We look forward to a fun evening together, dining on delicious fare from around the world!
We invite you to embrace La Lu with a gift to our Annual Fund, by authorizing a monthly pledge (billed to your student’s account), writing a check to the School, or giving a gift online. Please contact Susie Yemc with questions. Thank you for all that you do for La Lumiere School!
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. The Student Services Center is pleased to announce that we will once again be hosting our annual American Red Cross blood drive on campus from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 16. Donors must be 16 years of age or older, and if under the age of 18, a parental consent form will be needed from the SSC. You may schedule an appointment online, register with the school by emailing Mr. Mike Heffron, or walk-ins are welcome on the day of the drive as well. Please help us reach our goal of 40 units of blood.
If your student is interested in applying for a Prefect position for the 2017-2018 academic year, applications are due to Mr. Chad Perney by Friday, March 17. Please contact Mr. Perney with questions and visit the Prefect web page for details about each position.
Our third annual Parents Association Wine & Beer Tasting is on Friday, March 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bentwood Tavern in New Buffalo, Michigan. Invitations were mailed to parents, and we encourage you to invite friends and family. Tickets may be purchased online. We look forward to seeing you all there!
The Silver Lake Duathlon to benefit La Lumiere School will be held on Sunday, May 21, in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. This race provides a unique blend of cross country running and smooth, paved bike course through the surrounding country roads. Participants may also choose to enjoy a scenic three-mile Fun Run/Walk on a trail through meadows and woods. Please pass along this flyer and share the news with your friends. All proceeds from the race will benefit La Lumiere School.
Camp Invention is coming to La Lumiere again this summer, July 10 to 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. This is a one-week summer program where your student’s (entering kindergarten through sixth grade) creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills are challenged and developed in fun and exciting ways. Camp Invention’s top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. Cost is $225 per child and you can register online. Please contact Mr. Brett Balhoff with questions. Feel free to share this opportunity with anyone you think would be interested in participating.
La Lumiere is offering summer courses on campus again this year. All courses are available to current and incoming La Lumiere students, and some courses are available to students attending other schools—please pass the word along! Visit our website to see the list of courses offered, the dates they will take place, and the cost. You may also register for courses online. Feel free to contact Mr. Will Lingle with your questions.
