1 REMINDER: For those who RSVP’d for our third annual Parents Association Wine & Beer Tasting, this event is tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. CT at Bentwood Tavern in New Buffalo, Michigan. We look forward to seeing you there.
2 Congratulations to the La Lumiere Science Olympiad team! They traveled to Indiana University in Bloomington last weekend for the state finals, and out of 37 regional qualifying teams they placed eighth overall in the state. Teams competed in 23 events in the areas of biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, engineering, and problem solving. La Lu brought home the gold in two events: Andy Hang, Beth Lee, and Rowena Quinn earned gold for Experimental Design; and Kathy Kong and Zoe Surma earned gold for Material Science. In total, they captured six medals and had 12 top 10 performances. Well done, team!
3 Be sure to catch Brian Bowen and Jaren Jackson Jr. on the court for the 40th McDonald’s All American Games next Wednesday, March 29 at the United Center in Chicago. The boys game will be broadcast on ESPN and the game starts at 6 p.m. CT. Tickets for the games may be purchased online. Good luck, Brian and Jaren!
4 Our Varsity White basketball team is set to take on Wasatch Academy on Thursday, March 30 in New York City for the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals. Quarterfinals will be played at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York at 6 p.m. ET. and televised on ESPNU. Game tickets may be purchased online. If you are traveling to NYC for the game, please join us for a post-game gathering on Thursday March, 30 at 9 p.m. at McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon. Cost is $30 per person and includes food, soft drinks, and gratuity. Please purchase tickets online for the gathering by Wednesday, March 29 at 9 p.m. CT. Email Ms. Susie Yemc if you have questions.
5 Parents of students planning to travel to New York City for the DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals: Please call or email the School with your travel plans (including the time you will be leaving) so we are aware of your student’s absence. Students who will be absent to attend the tournament will be unexcused with grace. Students, we ask that you inform your teachers prior to your departure so you are aware of the schoolwork that will need to be made up and they are aware that you will be gone. Thank you all for your cooperation!
6 The Taste of La Lumiere is the School’s international food festival that celebrates the many cultures represented within our community. This amazing event is quickly approaching on Friday, April 7, so mark your calendars, tell your friends, and purchase your tickets online. We look forward to a fun evening together, dining on delicious fare from around the world!
7 Our spring fundraising event, Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, will be held on Saturday, May 6 at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana. This fun night out generates support for every aspect of our School, and your attendance is greatly appreciated. Invitations were mailed and should be arriving in your mailboxes very soon. 8 Camp Invention is coming to La Lumiere again this summer, July 10 to 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. This is a one-week summer program where your student’s (entering kindergarten through sixth grade) creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills are challenged and developed in fun and exciting ways. Camp Invention’s top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. Cost is $225 per child and you can register online. 9 The Silver Lake Duathlon to benefit La Lumiere School will be held on Sunday, May 21, in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. This race provides a unique blend of cross country running and smooth, paved bike course through the surrounding country roads. Participants may also choose to enjoy a scenic three-mile Fun Run/Walk on a trail through meadows and woods. Please pass along this flyer and share the news with your friends. All proceeds from the race will benefit La Lumiere School.
