Music Appreciation
This survey course will touch on basics of the qualities and beauty of music. Students will learn how to listen to music with a critical ear, as well as learn basic music history. Students will be expected to listen, discuss and write about music they hear. Different genres such as classical music (and different time periods within European musical history), jazz, blues, country, and popular music will be explored. Participants will gain an appreciation for the basic qualities that are within music.

Jazz History
This course is a survey course that explores various elements of jazz throughout musical history, and its cultural significance. In this course, you will explore cultural and historical perspectives of this uniquely American music, as well as study and learn about leading figures in jazz music. Through listening, we will discuss and recognize a variety of jazz styles, as well as the instruments used in this diverse genre.

Beginning Guitar
Students will explore basic guitar styles and history, as well as learn the "basics" of playing acoustic guitars. Both strumming and picked styles will be taught, as well as basic music theory (as it relates to chord progressions). Tablature, the format of most written guitar music, will be learned at length. Each student will have an opportunity to make musical selections as they advance. Students will be assessed by means of playing tests, as well as small performances. All participants MUST provide their own acoustic guitar.

Advancing Guitar
This course is designed to take guitar skills that students already have, and further your study. In this course, we will learn intermediate and advanced guitar techniques, as well as further studies in music theory. We will learn and create chord progressions, as well as transpose, arrange and compose music for the class. Tablature, a shorthand way of notating guitar music, will be studied in depth. Lastly, we will continue our study of famous guitarists and their notable works. All participants in this class MUST provide their own acoustic guitar.
