Strategic Priorities

Signature Academic Program

We seek to develop a new signature academic
program with multiple strands that will become
a distinctive strength of La Lumiere.

Excellence in Athletics

We seek to elevate the quality and prominence of all aspects of our athletics program.

Facilities Modernization

We will construct or renovate facilities needed to support excellence in our school programs.

Faculty

We will recruit and retain superb teachers and invest in professional development to ensure excellence in teaching and learning.

Financial Strength

We seek to grow our endowment, and create additional revenue through careful development of summer programs.

A Multifaceted Signature Program

Data assessment of surveys of Parents and Alumni, along with a series of discussions with faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees reveals a consensus that La Lumiere should develop a multifaceted signature program through which students will develop skills and experiences in the following strands:

  • These areas overlap, so a student may, for example, explore leadership in each of the other strands.
  • The STEM strand will include an emphasis on environmental science and engineering among its focus areas.
  • Each of these strands will include an emphasis on career exploration and development. We will pursue partnerships with local businesses and organizations, independent study of career fields, and internships.
  • Each of these strands will be prominent in the curriculum, in co-curricular activities, and in extra-curricular activities.
  • We will consider whether to offer a certificate of accomplishment that can be earned in each strand.

Leadership

We will broaden our robust program for leadership development across the four years of high school. We seek to incorporate opportunities to learn about and practice leadership throughout our classes and programs, including service-learning, co-curricular, and advisory programs. We will guide each student to develop strong leadership skills and a clear sense of purpose.

STEM

We will enhance and develop our distinctive STEM programs, including focal areas on coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics, engineering and design, environmental science, and other areas. We will monitor the rapid changes in these fields and seek to revise our program in response to these changes.

Global Systems & Cultures

We seek to extend and deepen our program that focuses on developing global citizens and strengthening our students’ understanding of global systems and cultures. It will broaden their knowledge and provide opportunities for close connection and meaningful engagement with others around the world. The program will prepare our students to thrive in global business, political, and cultural environments.

Athletic Programs

  • We seek to strengthen our programs to ensure a consistently excellent athletic experience for our students on all of our teams.
  • We will seek to define and promote specific elements of our athletic programs beyond our national basketball program that will enhance the scholar-athlete experience and bring us additional recognition for excellence.
  • We seek to expand our athletic programs to provide a wider variety of athletic experiences.

Facilities

  • We seek to build and renovate spaces on campus that are essential to our academic and co-curricular programs, including classrooms, residential life facilities, and athletic and arts facilities. We will develop a phased plan with clear priorities to achieve these goals over a time span that exceeds the scope of the Strategic Plan. That process will begin and grow over the next three years, with many of the fruits of the effort becoming manifest in the years beyond.
  • We seek to implement a facilities maintenance plan to ensure our current spaces are highly functional and appealing.

Faculty & Staff

  • We will continue to seek the finest faculty and staff and to ensure competitive compensation in salary and benefits for them.
  • We seek to expand the range of professional development opportunities offered to our faculty and staff to ensure continual growth and engagement.

Financial Strength

In order to ensure La Lumiere’s ability to thrive in variable regional and national economic conditions, and in order to continue to provide opportunity to students from a wide range of financial circumstances…

  • We seek to grow our endowment and ensure that it is suitable to our school’s size and ambitions.
  • We seek to create additional revenue through careful development of summer programs.
