The La Lumiere Science Olympiad team attended the State competition in Bloomington on March 16 and competed against 35 schools from across the State of Indiana. The team finished 11th overall, boasting top-ten finishes in five events and a 4th place medal earned by the Harkness sisters, Haley '19 and Alexis '22, in the “Write It/Do It" event.
La Lumiere School music students participated in the ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) Solo and Ensemble contest on both the district and state levels this past January and February, earning several top ratings at both events.
As a participant in the Small Schools Division, La Lumiere’s Academic Decathlon team will compete online at the national level in April, with all new sets of questions to test their knowledge on the 1960’s.
Mr. Buchanan was selected by Honored.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to “elevating the teaching profession by recognizing teachers across the country who are changing students’ lives,” after a nomination by 2018 graduate Gina Billys.
In spite of the challenges they faced, the students banded together, making pit stops along their path and even at the entrance of the bonfire ring to light and relight each other’s torches. They were patient through the wind and the rain, choosing to remain focused on the celebration before them.
