24th Annual Golf Outing Recap

A Beautiful Day for Golf

Friday, September 21 dawned cloudy and cool, but by the time our golfers took the links just after noon, the sun was shining.

Alumni, alumni parents, current parents and friends of La Lumiere School comprised the twenty foursomes who competed in a team scramble. The winning team, Steve Gawronski, Terry Ploetz, Brock Zeeb and La Lumiere Trustee, Jeff Rea, posted an impressive score of 51. Prizes were also awarded to the longest drive, male and female, and closest to the pin. Vicky Krop (current parent and wife of Peter Krop ’83) won longest drive for the women and Brian Tonino ’12 (Assistant Director of Admissions) won for the men. Amanda Shannon (niece of Mike Shannon ’73) won closest to the pin for the field.

Rod Mannion, Paul Leyden, Mike Riley, and Lee Kerrigan from the Class of 1978

Gwen Tonino and Johnine Killeen

Pat O’Malley ’79, Ed Odar, Jerry Williams, Jaren Jackson Sr., Matt Marvin and Ed Smith

The winners received beautiful Nambé marble cheese trays donated by Dan Hillenbrand ’84. Players had the opportunity to win a prize on each of the five par three holes, including the chance to win a new Buick thanks to our hole-in-one sponsor, Sauers Buick. Unfortunately, no one hit a hole-in-one. Better luck next time!

Supporting Our Students with a Successful Auction

That evening the golfers were joined by other Laker supporters for a dinner and auction. We would like to thank our event sponsor, Walsh Construction (Dan Walsh’95), and all the other sponsors who underwrote the event. Thank you also to everyone who supported the auction by donating an item or purchasing one.

The outing and auction net $125,000, including $65,500 raised during a paddle raise to support the Scholarship Fund. Need-based academic scholarships put a La Lumiere education within reach for more students, allowing us to maintain a diverse student body and resulting in a more robust educational experience for all our students.

Charter Class of 1968 Wins the Alumni Award for 50th Reunion

As usual, the Golf Outing also served as our annual alumni reunion. The charter class of 1968 had a wonderful turnout at the event with almost 50% of their class present, earning them the Alumni Award. On Saturday, the charter class visited campus for a tour and lunch in Moore House. It was a milestone for La Lumiere School to welcome back its first 50th reunion class! Thank you to the members of the class who returned to reconnect after so many years.
