Meet the New Serviam Prefect

Meet junior Amelia Surma, the incoming Serviam Prefect. Her job, broadly, is to be responsible for “cultivating a servant’s heart in each faculty member and student.” Along with that come many more specific responsibilities, of course, such as coordinating student service opportunities, but being a student-leader to Amelia is mostly about recognizing the big picture. “Being a leader means being someone that others can trust,” she says, “and being willing to do everything you can to improve the well-being of a community.”

Just like she and the rest of the Prefect Board plan on serving their peers because they love the La Lu community, Amelia notes that service isn’t a selfish endeavor: to really be of service, “You have to invest yourself, you have to have the right mentality. Community is about more than just you.”
