Welcome from the Headmaster
Michael H. Kennedy ’86

Greetings and welcome to our community. La Lumiere is a premier, small, college preparatory boarding and day school where the fundamental principles of character, scholarship, and faith are exercised regularly to prepare our students for the responsibilities and opportunities of adulthood. As a La Lumiere graduate, former teacher, and its fifth Headmaster, I have come to both know and appreciate the school from many different perspectives. Academically, La Lumiere offers a rich and dynamic educational experience that encourages critical thinking, self-advocacy, and effective communication skills. Similarly, La Lumiere has an impressive Arts program, a very successful leadership initiative, and a wide range of co-curricular and athletic offerings. That said, one of the most remarkable aspects of La Lumiere is not a defined program, but rather a communal inclination toward inclusion, respect, and acceptance. The silos or distinctions that often divide much larger schools do not exist at La Lumiere. Academic and athletic teams are celebrated with equal vigor, our theater productions draw as many spectators as our basketball games, and it is not unusual for Third Form Students to be friends with Sixth Form students. All La Lumiere students are encouraged to contribute their talents, passions, and interests to the broader community; a community that is as welcoming as it is diverse. La Lumiere is truly a special place and I invite you to learn more about our school by exploring our website, contacting our Admissions Office, or stopping by for a campus tour.
