La Lumiere offers academic and service travel programs during school breaks to various locations around the globe. Travel programs are designed to provide students with academic or service credit, in addition to invaluable cultural immersion.

Nicaragua: February 25 – March 9

Cost: $3,000 – Application
This service trip to Nicaragua happens during spring break, and the purpose of the trip is to volunteer for Fabretto Children’s Foundation. Students head into the mountains to the northern city of Cusmapa to work with children in the Fabretto school and take part in a hands-on project to help the school. Past trips have also included outings to the historical city of Granada where students enjoy shopping at outdoor markets, zip lining, and an excursion to an active volcano.

Prague: June 1 – 9 (Tentative)

Cost: $3,000 – ApplicationWebsite/Blog
Students will enjoy a one-week trip to Czech Republic’s capital city and experience the majesty and tragedy of Prague’s old town. From historic sites where dissidents were persecuted to Golden Lane where Franz Kafka once lived, Prague offers an incredible backdrop to learn about Central Europe’s turbulent past. Excursions outside the city will take students to two UNESCO world heritage sites: Cesky Krumlov, a picturesque village in southern Bohemia; and Kutna Hora, home to the uniquely macabre “bone church.” Other highlights include the Terezin Concentration Camp, Prague’s Jewish Quarter, and a Czech opera at the magnificent National Theater. Each day, students will complete a blog entry to reflect on their experience as well as complete a course workbook to gain a general understanding of Czech history and language.
