Dr. James R. Kennedy

Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Dr. James R. Kennedy Scholarship honors the late James Kennedy who served as a leader in medicine, humanitarian work, and civil rights in Kankakee County. During his life, Dr. Kennedy lived the Jesuit motto: “ad majorem Dei gloriam” – for the greater glory of God. It is fitting that a scholarship for underrepresented students was established in his name because throughout his life Dr. Kennedy shared his gifts to benefit the poor and marginalized. He used his influence to challenge others to broaden their understanding of cultural and global differences and increase civic engagement. The James R. Kennedy Scholarship is awarded each year to a talented student who personifies Dr. Kennedy’s values and is part of an underrepresented population.
