La Lumiere School held its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 12th under the direction of Dr. Francis Yun. The concert included performances from the chamber ensemble, concert choir, and jazz band, as well as individual student performances.

Junior Oliver Gnaedinger, Freshman Elise Clark, Sophomore Martin Ma, and Senior Brenna Hudson opened the show with a violin performance of Concerto in D major by Georg Telemann. Freshmen Lamariah Branch and Zell Wilson followed, singing Away in a Manger accompanied by Junior Sevanna Qiu on piano. Angels We Have Heard on High was performed by Junior Quentin Funderburg (Oboe) and Senior Donny Lou (Clarinet), accompanied by Dr. Yun on piano. A solo performance of John Lennon’s Happy Xmas with Senior Connor Fife singing and playing the guitar followed. Next, the Lakers were Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Junior Mason Cooper (Guitar), Freshman Cliff Zhu (Guitar) and Dr. Yun (Piano) performed, with Branch and Wilson returning to lend vocals. Perhaps the crowd favorite of the night was “Doc Yun and the Jazzy Boys” who performed a three-song set: D Natural Blues, Autumn Leaves, and Jingle Bell Rock. “Doc Yun and the Jazzy Boys” is comprised of Junior Trevor Brandt and Senior Donny Lou on clarinet, Sophomore Mason Cooper on electric guitar, Freshman Cliff Zhu on acoustic guitar, and Freshman Alex Olsen on drums along with Dr. Yun on piano.

The final act of the night featured the La Lumiere Concert Choir, filling the Fine Arts Building with their Christmas spirit. They sang three songs: O Come All Ye Faithful, Lullaby (an original composition by Dr. Yun), and It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas.
