La Lumiere's Film Fest Returns

La Lumiere’s Film Fest returned in-person this year and brought 10 films to the Fine Arts Building. The Film Fest is a student-organized event that is open to submissions from faculty and students. From music videos to embellished video game recordings to a reflection on Bookstore Basketball over the years, the topics and styles ranged immensely, highlighting the style of each film director.

Summer Session at La Lumiere

La Lumiere is pleased to announce the return of our Summer Session for 2022. This summer, our faculty will be offering Economics, Government, and Introduction to Judaism.

All courses in the Summer Session will run online from June 6 to June 17 and then on campus to finish the course.

Lakers Connect with the Community Through School Buddies Program

In 2011, the School Buddies program first paired with students from La Lumiere. The School Buddies program strives to make a positive difference in the lives of young people through one-to-one relationships during the school day. The opportunity fits into La Lumiere’s Wednesday Elective slot and promotes community service, which is an aspect of every student’s education.

Over La Lumiere’s Spring Break, nine students explored Ireland and expanded their creative writing skills. With hikes up Croagh Patrick to hands-on experience examining prehistoric sites, our Lakers had ample opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of Ireland.

La Lumiere Claims Both South Shore Athletic Conference Titles

At the beginning of this season, the La Lumiere’s Girls Varsity team held a meeting in which they identified three words for their season: grit, growth, and unity. “They have embraced the gritty mentality and are going to outwork whoever is on the court,” Head Coach Matt Marvin said. This drive has rewarded the team throughout the season. With five games left, the team has claimed the South Shore Athletic Conference title and upset nationally ranked South Bend Washington this past Saturday.

La Lumiere Senior Named Evans Scholar

La Lumiere senior Hugo Arias was recently named a Chick Evans Scholarship awardee. Arias is the sixth Evans Scholar at La Lumiere in the last six years. The Evans Scholars Program provides full tuition and housing scholarships for high-achieving and deserving caddies. In order to be eligible to apply, students must demonstrate an excellent academic record in addition to a strong record as a caddie.

In addition, the publication also features information on Commencement for the Class of 2021 and information about new staff and faculty at La Lumiere. Four La Lumiere Juniors Named Rising Stars of Indiana

La Lumiere juniors Maisie Jenuwine, Dana Mulco, Sabina Patel, and Mia Risser were recently named Rising Stars of Indiana by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP). The Rising Stars of Indiana is designed to “honor high school juniors for their academic achievement.” This achievement is a sign of outstanding scholars in their junior year, which can increase visibility and scholarship opportunities in their future.

Each academic year, La Lumiere provides financial assistance to over one-third of our students. Need-based financial aid is based on each family’s financial profile. Additionally, there are merit-based scholarships available to all La Lumiere students.

La Lumiere Senior Selected as a Finalist for Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship

La Lumiere senior Lauren Jaracz was selected as one of the eleven La Porte County finalists for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship by the Unity Foundation of La Porte County. This prestigious scholarship covers tuition for a baccalaureate degree at any accredited public or private university or college in Indiana and an additional $900 book stipend annually. Two of the eleven finalists will be selected for the scholarship.

La Lumiere Receives Donation from Michigan City Kia

Kia’s “Accelerate the Good” campaign arrived at La Lumiere School this year. Since 2019, Kia Motors America has been supporting America’s youth through various national campaigns. Since the fall of 2020, the “Accelerate the Good” campaign brought Kia’s charitable giving and positive messaging directly to the local communities that Kia dealerships serve.

La Lumiere's Rain Garden Offers Insight into Ecoscaping

La Lumiere students walk along green infrastructure, the newly installed rain gardens in front of the Fine Arts Building and Main Office, every day. This new landscaping serves the school multiple ways: it mitigates water runoff, it adds additional native plant species to the Main Quad, and creates a new space to gain first-hand knowledge of the landscape and all that impacts it.
