Becoming a Laker

Everything we do at La Lumiere School is about meeting you where you are and helping you grow into the most complete version of yourself. This holistic approach hinges on buy-in from students, parents, and faculty alike. Learn more about the application process for incoming Lakers!

During the application process to La Lumiere, we want to remind you that there is no typical La Lumiere student. We seek a mosaic of students and we pride ourselves on recognizing the unique talents and passions that make every child special. Artists, athletes, and actors all call La Lumiere home, as do high achievers and non-traditional learners. We are excited to welcome a new group of excellent students and families to join the Laker community as day or boarding students.

Our Admissions Team is looking forward to reviewing your application for the 2021-2022 school year! We are here to help and happy to walk you through any part of the process of joining our college prep high school. This post should also help provide some clarity as we inch closer to the first deadline of the admission season:

Dates & Deadlines

When are applications due?
The first round of applications for admission are due on February 22, 2021. All applications submitted after that date will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We accept the Standard Application Online or our Application.

When will I hear back if I am accepted into La Lumiere?
The Admissions team will send out admission decisions and enrollment information by early March via email.

Application Information

What does the application require?
Application Form, Student Essay, Two Teacher Recommendation Forms, Virtual Interview, and Student Transcripts.

How long is the Application Form?
Most parents or guardians spend about 20-30 minutes completing the application form and parent or guardian questionnaire.

Are there specific prompts for the essay?
Yes, our application offers three prompts and applicants choose one to respond to in 250-500 words. Your essay should be uploaded in your application portal. If you complete the SAO, please respond to all of the prompts located in that portal.

1. A Legacy is something that reflects who you are, what you do, and what you care about. Your legacy tells a story about you and speaks to the community long after you have graduated and moved on. When you graduate from La Lumiere, what do you want your legacy to be?

2. Which is more important, hard work or talent? Why? Describe something you have worked to achieve and explain the steps you took to ensure success.

3. If you had the opportunity to bring any person — past or present, fictional or nonfictional — to a place that is special to you, who would you bring and why? Tell us what you would share with that person.

What teacher should the recommendation forms come from?
Your Math teacher and English or History teacher should complete the recommendation form. Once logged into the application portal, you will be able to enter their email addresses for them to receive the form.

How do I schedule my virtual interview?
You can schedule your virtual interview by emailing admissions@lalumiere.org. Each interview is about 15 minutes, and feel free to bring questions you have about La Lumiere to discuss during our time together!

Who do I speak with during the virtual interview?
You will meet with a member of our Admissions Committee.
