La Lumiere senior Craig Jacobson-Immelt, a boarding student from Phoenix, Arizona, was named a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program. Cooke College Scholars are selected based on exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, persistence, and leadership.

This year’s semifinalists were chosen from a pool of over 5,800 applicants from students across the country. Craig is among a selection of 496 high school seniors from 428 different high schools from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Marianas, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. Craig is one of the eight high school seniors selected from a high school in Indiana. Every year, around 60 students are chosen for the scholarship and the recipients will be announced in April. This highly selective scholarship provides exceptionally talented students who have financial need with up to $40,000 annually for four years of college, to enable them to attend a top-performing college or university.

“Craig is an excellent student in the classroom, and his intellectual curiosity extends across disciplines and beyond the curriculum,” says Assistant Head and Academic Dean, Andrew Hoyt, “We are proud of Craig for earning this distinction and representing La Lumiere’s commitment to cultivating scholarship.”

After arriving at La Lumiere for his junior year, Craig, the Residential Life Prefect, has been a key component to La Lumiere’s community on campus. From taking photographs for the yearbook to tutoring other students in chemistry and Spanish, Craig maintains a strong presence in many facets of life at La Lumiere. “At La Lumiere, I’ve been able to be involved in extracurriculars and join different activities and explore who I am,” Craig said.

According to the foundation’s website, “The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial need. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded over $222 million in scholarships to over 2,800 students from 8th grade through graduate school, along with comprehensive educational advising and other support services. The Foundation has also provided $115 million in grants to organizations that serve such students.”
