This past Thursday, La Lumiere hosted the annual Red Cross Blood Drive in the Student Activity Center.

In a year with many challenges in finding opportunities to serve, our community stepped up and participated fully in the blood drive. All registration spots were filled for the event, which exceeds participation numbers compared to past annual blood drives.

"The drive has exceeded our expectations. For the first time, we were able to fill all available appointment slots. I am grateful to our community for this tremendous support,” Director of Residential Life Mike Heffron said.

Like stated earlier, the annual blood drive offers members of our community an opportunity to serve others, which is so important during the ongoing pandemic. The disruption of usual donations due to the pandemic has caused a significant reduction in the supply over the last year, which makes donating blood critical to our local community. According to the Red Cross website, “These donations help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.”

Not only were students and staff able to donate blood, but they also served as volunteers to sign in the donors, take temperatures at the door, and provide food and water to those who donated.

We are grateful for all the participants and those who volunteered their time to make this a successful blood drive!
