As the red and purple sky of late fall in Indiana started to dim, specks of light wove through the darkened woods on La Lumiere’s campus. The reflection of the light glimmered off the still waters of the lake. The annual Senior Bonfire, a celebration of the senior class and a symbol of each student’s commitment to the larger La Lu community, was underway.

“The Senior Bonfire is one of the oldest traditions at La Lumiere and the event epitomizes our school’s name,” explained Adam Kronk, Head of School. “Each year, as the seniors contribute their individual torches to the fire and the flames illuminate the darkness, it serves as a reminder that all our light shines brighter when we come together. It was particularly meaningful this year and I’m so happy for the Class of 2021 that we found a way to make this happen for them.”

Though COVID-19 has changed so many elements of life on campus and everywhere, maintaining traditions is essential for keeping the drumbeat of community steady at La Lumiere. Masked and physically distanced, the seniors being able to participate in this rite was hugely important. The fact that November 6 was over 60 degrees and a picture perfect weather day was the icing on the cake!
